I read. Mainly, I read because I am a student. If you have been keeping up with my blog, you would know that I have also been reading non-school books. As I call them. Yep! I usually feel like I get more out of my non-school books in relation to my school books. Anyway, today was different. I really got something out of reading my Sociology book. It was quite profound. I think. The Chinese philosopher, Confucius, stated this:

"All people are the same; it’s only their habits that are different.”

This made me think, imagine that! First, it forces me to realize that while I am similar to the people around me. I am a student. I am learning to go out into the real world. I am taking on responsibility. I am studying. I am hanging out with my friends. I am involved around campus. I AM SIMILAR. I am alike many people around me. My habits… well, those are a completely different story. My habits determine the type of student that I am. They determine the way that I take on my responsibilities. They determine how well and how often I study. They determine the relationships that I have with my friends. They determine how I will handle the “REAL WORLD” whatever that means. Secondly, it shows me that we are just plain, ole’ people. While we may have different habits and different colors of skin and different ways of viewing the world and different opinions and different… a lot of things. WE ALL judge, and I think that we forget that we are not always judging ‘people’ but their habits. But we are people, nonetheless.

Food for thought.
Love,  Leigh and Confucius
