I am not a poet in the least; however, when an emotional, stressful, and tiring week collides with the most awkward Public Speaking exercise EVER… these words ended up on paper! I appologize ahead of time for those of you who experienced my especially close relationship with my grandmother, this one’s a tear jerker! Here goes!
I put on your pearls the other day and felt a tear roll down my face.
While I think of you everyday, it was another reminder you are not with me in this place.
Any one would think it is a material item, but to me a gift;
a wonderful remembrance of your constant love and plentiful grace.
I miss you most when things are not so shiny like gold.
You taught me to be aware that life isn’t always pretty like pearls,
Yet I think of you and smile because while losing you continues to hurt,
knowing you makes it worthwhile.
We thought we had all summer but the beauty of life seems to fade
when you cannot enjoy its blessings through the pain.
Yet, unlike most, we made the most of the time we had left.
Thank you for the memories I will always cherish.
I love you always; I will miss you until my end.
Thank you for not only being my grandmother but also being my best friend.
